In the days and years after Jesus’s resurrection, the gospel spread like wildfire. This was due in part to the believers faith in Jesus, their commitment to living out the truth, and their urgency to share it with others. But most of all, it was because they were convicted that they had seen something worth sharing.
Last Sunday (1/9), Robin shared the first message in this new series. If you were unable to attend in-person or watch online, I’d really encourage you to go back and listen. You can do so by clicking the button below. If we can embrace this attitude as a Church, the result will be a life-giving and life-changing community of believers.
Right now, there are a few things we can do to make this vision a reality. First, Robin has challenged us all to read through the Bible daily; it’s not too late to start. For more information about this, reach out to Robin or Diane. Second, we have Bible classes on Sundays and Wednesdays for all ages. These are incredible opportunities for us to gather as a Church to pour into God’s Word, to witness the truth. I urge you to join us. Third, we have a number of other opportunities to study the Bible in smaller groups, like the Monday night Zoom group and our new Women’s Group on Sunday nights. As we continue this month and this year, let’s be asking these questions: (1) Are we convicted by what we’ve seen and heard?, and (2) What can we do to have that same sense of urgency?
This preaching series is part of a broader study that we’re embarking on through 2022, “I Witness.” The book of Acts details the life of the early Church and the movement of the gospel. As eye witnesses of the Son of God in the flesh, they couldn’t help but share the truth, share their testimony. Consider the role of an eye witness testimony in our legal system. A trial takes place to uncover the truth. And often in trials, an eye witness to the event(s) can play a significant role. The eye witness must have (1) seen something and (2) be willing to tell the truth about it. We, the Church of Christ at Spring Road, must realize that we have seen some something worth sharing.
By the end of the year, we aim to be equipped and encouraged to witness. So that we, like Peter and John, “Cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” Jesus came as the witness to the truth. (John 18:37) Since we have faith in Jesus, we too, are eye witnesses. All believers can boldly proclaim, “I believe. And I witness.”
