The first ever vocal radio broadcast was on December 24, 1906 and it consisted of a reading from Luke chapter 2. A Canadian engineer and inventor, Reginald Fressenden (1866-1932) was the oldest son of an Anglican minister growing up near Niagara Falls.

On Christmas Eve in 1906, from his workshop in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Fressenden sent the Morse message”CQ….CQ’, alerting all ships at sea to expect an important transmission. When the telegraphers had assembles in their shipboard radio shacks, they heard the unimaginable: the sound of the human voice! Fressenden, at this moment spoke for the first time ever on a vocal broadcast. He read from Luke 2 including, “Glory to God in the highest -and on earth peace to men of good will.” Those who were listening that night were no less stunned than if a tree had talked to them. Earphone that had only ever carried Morse code were communicating the full range of sound.

When Jesus was born – the full message of God was heard. Now the sins of men would be forgiven – one sacrifice for everyone. Are you listening to his voice? He says through His ministry that your hurts and struggles matter to him.

Through Jesus, God says I will comfort you and forgive you. To be forgiven – have your sins washed away. To be comforted – turn your cares over to Him in prayer.
